THE POWER OF A DREAM....

"Within each of us lies the seeds to be more than we thought we could be. And if we'll take the chance to grow in His time, we'll see we've all got wings to fly. Till then, hold on butterfly!" When I wrote those words to my song, "Hold On, Butterfly", I had no idea at the time that the song was more for me than anyone else in the world.

As I approach 40, I am overjoyed at the birth of the wings God is giving me later in life. When I was in my twenties, I dreamed of a career filled with Grammy Awards and super-stardom. In my thirties, I began to feeling a deeper desire to move from career success to significance as my desire to pour into others took shape. And now, as the 30's slowly dwindle away, I am realizing that true empowerment comes only when you empower others. Thus, the dream of my childhood only gets bigger, better and more mature with age.

Living with a dream for your career, family or life is much like pregnancy. You have excitement, fears, growing pains, transition, expectation, surprise and yes....BIRTH. And as most of you mothers know...that's the easy part. Raising the baby is where true skill and passion must come in. But sometimes the journey from conception to birth can be a long and tiring walk that make you wonder if the dream will ever come to pass.

I want to encourage you today, whether you are in the early stages of conceiving your dream or in the "waiting" period of wondering if it will ever happen, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER GIVE UP!

This morning I was reminded of an interview I saw about the actor, Jim Carrey. Let it inspire you today as you remain focussed on the career before you and more importantly, the journey of significance that awaits you!

When he was only 17 years old, Jim Carrey arrived in Hollywood and decided to write himself a check for $20 million dollars. The check was his way of writing out his dream for the future. For him, it was the conception of what he hoped life would bring him. At that time, the dream seemed so far away, but still, Carrey believed.

Just a few years earlier, his father was laid off from his accounting job, forcing the entire family to get jobs at a local factory. Carrey was the youngest of four children and had to put in eight hour shifts after school.

Despite the tiring hours of endless labor, he continued to dream of the day his dream would be a reality. In the meantime, Carrey's dream was growing and life was growing Carrey. He continued to make people laugh and took every opportunity to do stand up for his friends at school and anyone who needed a laugh. To some, he was a nut. But Carrey knew he was born to make people laugh. He would even go to sleep in tap shoes just in case his parents needed a chuckle in the middle of the night.

Then in 1979, he moved to Hollywood and landed a job at The Comedy Store. Suddenly he could see the formation of his dream taking place. He went on to do small parts in television till his big break in Fox's hit series In Living Color. Eventually, he became a box office hit and people began to link humor with the name Jim Carrey.

Throughout the journey, Jim carried that $20 million dollar check in his pocket everyday to remind him of the dream. Finally, in 1996, twenty years later, The Cable Guy became his ticket to making over $20 million and being able to write himself a check for the full amount of his dream.

Jim Carrey cashed in on his dream and so can you. There is greatness in you that is yet to be unleashed. Like my song, "Hold On, Butterfly" says, "Hold On, Butterfly, your change is gonna come. Hold on, Butterfly, it won't be long. Till God puts wind beneath your wings and you jump out an live your dreams. Till then, just hold on!"

No matter what may come against your dream today, believe in your heart that anything is possible. Pray as if God were the only way to make it happen. Work as if only you can bring the dream to pass and the wait, and NEVER, NEVER, NEVER GIVE UP!!!

Thank you for your inspirational words and how true it is that one must never give up on their dreams. God has his time frame for each one of us--but the most important, is that we never lose our patience and just keep reinforcing everyday our positive affirmations and beliefs. Wake up every day and realize that this could be the day your dreams come true. Everyday I recite my own positive affirmations and give thanks to the lord for all he does in my life everyday.

Great story Staci! How important it is for us to "SEE" ourselves where we want to be.
