June
11, 2009 On June 16th, 13 young ladies, who were selected out of
the thousands of girls in Garland County, will attend the
prestigious EMpact Leadership Summit, a comprehensive leadership
development program sponsored by EMwomen International and various
businesses throughout the community. As the students and parents
attended the orientation meeting for the summit, excitement was
high as each young lady was told about her opportunity to emerge as
an excellent leader, as well as have the chance to win valuable
scholarships and prizes that promote future leadership.
Summit Director, Laurie Rushing, a 2 year veteran of EMwomen and
President of the Hot Springs Board of Realtors, states, "The EMpact
Leadership Summit is like nothing I have ever seen in leadership
development. This program has the potential to change the way we
prepare students, and even adults, for future employment, life
skills, and give our community businesses a new pool of emerging
leaders and employees to choose from. The girls that will benefit
from this first summit will be a testament to the amazing
character-based programs offered by EMwomen and its partners."
Young ladies from throughout Garland County will be attending the
Leadership Summit running June 16-23rd, with the hopes of being
chosen to win life-changing scholarships to further their
education. The summit will include such programs as: Smart Money -
financial literacy, EMfitness Training, EMcafe Healthy Cooking
Classes, Embracing Change - Emotional Management, goal setting,
public speaking classes, social skills, poise and etiquette,
interview skills, job preparation, diversity, vocational planning,
mentoring, as well as a community service challenge, ropes course,
golf clinic, and beach Olympics.
Staci Wallace, Founder and Executive Director of EMwomen, states,
"Our desire is to do much more than simply offer scholarships to
individuals seeking entrance to college. Before a candidate will
receive one of our scholarships, we want to ensure that they are
prepared to finish what they start and have the life-skills
training that will give them the edge in the marketplace and in
life. As this program evolves, we envision the summit as being a
leadership development tool for companies, schools, the court
system, and individuals throughout our community."
In July, EMwomen will host their annual EMerge Conference and
Fundraiser, featuring dynamic speakers, entertainment, scholarship
presentations, and one of these young ladies will be given the
title of "EMgirl (EMpowered Girl) Leader of the Year".
