Young Female-Focused Network,
EMwomen, Aims High

Networks built for women are becoming more and more a popular
resource. And no wonder. As far as the general supply social
services on the Web are concerned, the female demographic exceed
males in the number of bloggers, Facebook memberships, etcetera.
The trends of the last few years are clear. Women are making waves
in the business. One burgeoning online locale, called EMwomen, is
grabbing an increasing amount of attention as of late.
EMwomen, launched back on May 1st, employs the
customization-friendly

social networking platform Ning, which appears to have worked well
for the network. The site is already quite active. This seems due
in large part to its well-rounded array of services. There are
enough features on EMwomen that it appears relatively unique, but
it’s also crafted with a toolset that is in effect as tried and
tested as any on the market. Really, in the case of EMwomen,
there’s little question that the formula offered by Ning is proving
itself impressive.

As with most all social networks of today, EMwomen and its
growing membership can do much of the usual. They can commiserate
in groups, write blogs, post to forums, share photos and videos.
Users can publish or RSVP events as well. Virtually every aspect of
the site is immediately at hand. It’s a nice place to browse, for
sure.
Which is good for EMwomen, because the network’s aim is a very
grand one. According to Charlie Broadbent, the site’s director of
sales and

business relationships, EMwomen is looking to become “the largest
site for women and girls to connect in a safe environment.”
The most recent network that I can pin down as having launched
with a women-specific model in mind is WowOwow. It took the
stage in early March, and already it has turned into quite a busy
destination. Users regularly appear to engage blog posts, polls,
and other facets of the site. So EMwomen, while not having the
advantage of attracting regular contributions by some of the
biggest names in media and entertainment, may soon be on a similar
trajectory. Achieving such heights is not guaranteed, of course.
Several factors will determine the rate at which it rises to new
levels. One is its ability to publicize effectively. Another is to
deliver on user demand, whatever that demand is, and do so quickly.
Ample word-of-mouth and a hefty supply of luck and fortuity won’t
hinder its cause, either.
