How are you handling meeting and event planning?

Lots of companies have been laying off employees. GM and Chrysler have begun eliminating dealerships nationwide. Several companies have even stopped planning their annual or bi-annual meetings and events. What does this mean for the Destination Management Company (DMC), or the businesses that need these events to boost the morale of their employees, or provide training?

Lets start out with the companies that are still holding meetings and events for their employees. Although the economy has been tough, some companies are still having events to keep their personnel motivated. These companies also hold events with the goal of training employees on the utilization of updated or new ideas and processes which will enable them to continue to flourish and bring in revenue.

Some companies have stopped their teambuilding, leadership training, and motivating their employees. With that, they are losing money and employees are disgruntled and the fearing the possible loss of their jobs. Additionally, this has brought more business to the doctor's office with people having anxiety attacks, depression, high blood pressure, and other health issues.

Lastly, we talk about the DMC's. Those companies that are continuing their events bring good business for the DMCs. However, with meetings and events going in a new direction, it is difficult for DMC's to provide the level of services once given to their clients. What most do not know is that DMC's have valuable relationships with venues, entertainment options, linen and decor options, event staffing and other vendors that could be needed for events.

With the valuable relationships previously mentioned, DMCs have the ability to secure services at a better rate because of the relationships that we have with the vendors and venues as well as being able to have events at less cost. Would you like to improve company morale? Would you like to continue to motivate your teams with more training and teambuilding events? How about bringing awareness to your non-profit organization or a dine-around to say thank you for your hard work?
